River Girl is Now at the Marble Mountain Gift Co. in Happy Camp

June 14, 2012 by Linda Jo Martin

[Update: I wrote this post in 2011… and now it is 2016. The book is probably sold out in Happy Camp stores, but you can find it online at Amazon.com.]

As of today, River Girl is now available at the Marble Mountain Gift Co. at 19 Davis Road, in Happy Camp, California!

It has been an exciting but stressful week for the publication of River Girl.

The books arrived in town on Saturday during the Art and Treasure Hunt Weekend, but of course the post office was closed so I couldn’t pick them up until Monday!

My youngest daughter arrived in town last weekend too, so I’ve been spending lots of time with her. I was happy to sign the first book for her – especially since she inspired the character of Claire Welch in the novel.

Today I took some books to the Marble Mountain Gift Co., and also took one to the Karuk People’s Center for the archeologist there to read.

A writing friend asked me how it felt to hold my book and leaf through the pages. Here’s my answer:

Holding my book is stressful! Now that I have them I have to:
(1) Find places to sell them
(2) Sign them
(3) Wait for responses and reactions

It is a good kind of stress. Something new! (This is my first published novel!)

I’m also working on a Kindle e-book version of the book. Currently I’m a little frustrated with trying to make the cover image look “just right” so I closed the Kindle site for a while and will try again later.

River Girl is available online at Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions.

In 1918 Claire Welch, age 9, moves from the San Francisco Bay Area to the coastal town of Eureka, far to the north. She must leave her dearest friend behind.

From there Claire heads toward a difficult life, traveling inland toward Happy Camp, a small town in the middle of a huge forest.

Near Happy Camp, in the Klamath River Valley, she faces the pain of loneliness and learns the true meaning of friendship.
